CHAPTER 2 MANAGING EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND DIVERSITY

Public Policy
-          Public policy consist of political decision for implementing programs to achieve societal goal
-          Public policy is a course of action or inaction that public authorities chose to pursue, in order to address a problem.
Reason why public policy is important
-          Laws almost never spring up at random; instead they flow out of the government’s public policy agenda
-          Most of the political debate you see occurring around election time reflect the fact that one political party’s public policy agenda is considerably different from the other’s-one may believe in redistributing wealth, while the other believe in lowering the tax on wealth people to encourage them to invest more, for instance
-          Public policy is not just some abstract concept. A government’s public policy viewpoint drives its legislative agenda. The laws and the other decision it makes the govern what its citizens can and cannot do. We can therefore the best understand the notion of equitableness and nondiscrimination underlying equal employment laws reflecting what our government over time saw as vital societal and therefore public policy goals
